Mumbai is a city of dreams. The idea of conducting Job Mela and Career Guidance emerged while meeting with Migrants as many of them are coming to Metropolitan cities in search of livelihood and most of them are educated. Lack of job opportunities at the place of their origin is a big concern.
Urban Community Development Centre (UCDC) Bandra Youth in collaboration with Archdiocesan Migrants Commission (AMC) organized Job Mela and Career Guidance for the Migrants, approximately 300 in number, on 28th July 2024. The main objectives of having this Mela and Career Guidance were to make known different career goals and different skills and also to connect them directly to the colleges and training Centres.
Before the commencement program tea and snacks were served to all the dignitaries, resource persons and participants. The resource persons were called from different fields: teaching, education, humanities, IT and other skills.
The youth welcomed everyone and the event began with a prayer dance by the Migrant Students of Bandra. Fr. Glasten Gonsalves, the Archdiocesan Migrants Commission thanked all the resource persons for obliging to come for the event. He also explained in detail the objectives of the event.
Mr. Mervin from Tata Strive Skill Development Centre, Sr. Matilda from Divine Child Polytechnic, Fr. Anton D’Souza SDB and Mr. Sachin from Don Bosco Vyawasaik Prashikshan Kedra, Pune, Mr. Rajesh Dhaktode from Hotel Industry, and Mr. Virochan from college of Social Work Nirmala Niketan, Fr. Lawrence Correa, Director of UCDC and Fr. Jerome D’Souza, Maitri Sangatan were the dignitaries who were called on the stage. Sr. Deodita the social worker of AMC introduced all the dignitaries who were seated at the dais.
The resource persons were given 5 each minutes to present about the training, studies and job opportunities. Fr. Jerome presented on the scope of ‘The National Institute of open schooling (NIOS).’ Fr. Lawrence the director of UCDC updated the recent developments in the new building and forthcoming activities at the new premises on 14th Road, Bandra.
Fr. Cosmos thanked all the resource persons and the participants. He appreciated UCDC Bandra Youth and AMC for planning and organizing this event so meticulously. At the end of the programme the Bandra youth put up a dance dhamaka.
Finally,e the participants were asked to meet the respective resource persons in order to get more information. It was a pleasant surprise to see the number of participants meeting the resource persons and enquiring about the process of getting a good job. The event was a great success as the participants, resource persons and the organizers went home with a sense of satisfaction and the fulfillment of the objectives of the programme.
